Finally got to try this out the other night. I don’t do a lot of night riding atm, and I live in an urban area with plenty of street lighting and light pollution. So bike lights are more about signaling my presence to motor vehicles than lighting the road or path being travelled. But, for the maiden voyage with the lights, I decided to ride a path that cut through a darker neighborhood and the light provided all the brightness needed to avoid cracks and curbs and give plenty of time to slow for speed bumps. Why there are bumps is a mystery. Probably to dissuade motorized use of the path while simultaneously annoying two-wheeled travelers. A true lose-lose in a way that only inept city agencies can achieve. Ok, snideness aside, this combo set does what it needs to at a competitive price. It’s not too shabby on the weight scale either, about 122 grams/4.3 oz without any of the mounting hardware. Quick note on the hardware- there is a shim for the front headlight that is hard to see in the packaging. I started a review that was going to rip the manufacturer for failing to provide hardware to mount the light on a common sized bar- But it is there! There are lighter, cheaper, brighter and more long lasting lights out there, but I haven’t seen any with *all* those features packed into a single unit. So you’ll have to do your homework and decide which features you want and how much you’re willing to pay for them. For casual urban cyclists doing shorter after dark rides, this should be plenty good. Oh, the taillight was fine as well. Quite light, weight wise- about 24 grams/~0.85 oz with the silicone strap. I like to use one of the non-steady on modes- it kinda seems like it’s more likely to catch a motorist’s eye, providing a clue that that red light isn’t a reflection, but something to watch out for and avoid. Unfortunately the lights weren’t yet mounted when I rode a few miles to meet up with the homebrew club. A thunderstorm rolled through just as I was about to leave so that would’ve provided info on how well it is sealed against water intrusion. Maybe next time.
