Description

Chippiepierre's Magic Paintbrush Tail: A Steamboat Adventure is a heartwarming and humorous tale of feline friendship, cooperation and adventure on the Chesapeake Bay. This book is richly illustrated with 30 pen and ink drawings by artist, George Frayne. Chippiepierre has a secret, he likes to paint with his paintbrush tail. But, things go wrong and it lands him and his best friend Gidgett on a Chesapeake Bay side-wheel steamboat in the year 1894. Now his secret is out. What has happened to his best friend? Is she with him somewhere on the steamboat? Can he find her? What will happen on board the steamboat? How can they get back home? All of the answers to these questions are in this adventurous and endearing tale which provides children the opportunity to learn about the Chesapeake Bay Steamboat Era. In the 1800's steamboats were the major mode of transportation in the Virginia and Maryland tidewater regions. People rode the steamships to go to the cities of Baltimore and Norfolk. Crops and seafood harvests were also shipped by steamboat to these cities. At the height of the Steamboat Era there was over 200 wharfs on the Chesapeake Bay and its tributaries. The small rural towns would spring to life when the steamboat docked. Hop aboard with Chippiepierre and Gidgett as they learn about life on a Chesapeake Bay steamboat and a very different time in history.
